Solar cluster to support local development in Limpopo

The 630MW Spitskop Cluster, located near Northam in Limpopo, is set to drive local economic development in the area, creating jobs, supporting local businesses, and bringing long-term investment into surrounding communities.

Bringing together three utility-scale projects — Copper (240MW), Palladium (240MW) and Vanadium (150MW) — the cluster is designed to harness the region’s strong solar resource while creating jobs during construction and supporting economic activity over the long term.

A key focus of the development is broad-based participation, with priority given to South African citizens, including local community members, black youth, women, and skilled professionals. The project also places emphasis on local procurement and supplier inclusion, helping to direct project spend into the surrounding economy.

In addition, the Spitskop Cluster will support skills development, enterprise and supplier development, and initiatives aimed at strengthening small and emerging businesses in the area. These commitments formed a core part of the projects’ strong Economic Development performance during the bid process.

Infinity Power noted that projects of this scale play an important role in unlocking both energy and economic value in host regions, while Pele Green Energy highlighted the importance of ensuring that local communities are active participants in, and long-term beneficiaries of, renewable energy developments.
